Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger toward opposing supporters, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans present at the game as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. It was kind of an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
